Day 9 Makati Cavite

Day 9
Makati
Cavite

November 8, 2006

On What used to be one of the sites of the 1986 People People Revolution in Makati, now stands glittering high rises

I'm in luck, enroute to Makati from Cavite I got to see alot of beautiful women vying for the Miss Earth title.

I got a padala for one of my attendings from his brother Doel Lavina near Ayala, Manila's version of Wall Street.

In the background is a statue of Ninoy Aquino, a national martyr, and husband of former Philippine president Cory Aquino, the international icon for the People Power Movement.

I ate lunch at Gerry's Grille, one of Manila's best restaurant, overlooking the Makati skyline, with Ike, a manager with Smart, a leading telecommunications company. BTW, the Philippines is the texting capital of the world.

Makati is often referred to as the Financial Capital of the Philippines. At the center of the city is the Central Business District (CBD) and its major thoroughfare Ayala Avenue is the nation's Wall Street. This is where many of the country's tallest skyscrapers are located.

Although its population is slightly less than half a million, the daytime population of Makati City is estimated to be a million during a typical working weekday because of the large number of people who go to the city to work, shop, and do business, especially in the Central Business District.

Manila is the capital of the Philippines, which has a population of 1,581,082 and a land area of 38.55 km². It has the highest population density of any major city in the world with 41,014 people/km². A million more transients are added during daytime as students and workers come to the city.

Metro Manila is the metropolitan area that contains the city of Manila, as well as sixteen surrounding cities and municipalities, including Quezon City, the capital from 1948 to 1976. Also known as the National Capital Region, Metro Manila is the political, economic, social, and cultural center of the Philippines,

Metro Manila is the smallest of the country's administrative regions, but the most populous and the most densely populated, having a population of 9,932,560 (2000 census) in an area only 636 square kilometers large.
As I was headed to Cavite, I got a view of one of Manila's many landmark edifices including the Cultural Center of the Philippines (left)

In the nick of time, I arrive in Kawit from Manila to join Ti Virgie, Lea's mother, and her amiga for dinner in my hometown. Malen Restaurant in Kawit capitalizes on the town's rich history with its Kapitunero theme.
